A great telugu movie after a long time….was laughing from the start to the end. Simple love story with good humor. A perfect no non-sense, low budget entertainer. Inspite of relatively new and in-experienced crew and casting, movie was really good (especially the last 15-20 minutes). I would definitely recommend this movie and that too it’s much better watching in a theatre. There were a few scenes where one can easily make out that camera work was not done perfectly but that’s definitely not a deal breaker. On the whole, it was one of the best telugu movies that I had watched in the recent past.

Downloaded this french movie few days back after I came across one of my friend’s facebook status about the movie. Watched it yesterday and it immediately reminded me of Russian Roulette. Strange coincidence I guess, I just started my second attempt at reading Fooled by Randomness by Nassim Nicholas Taleb and the author mentions about Russian Roulette in the first or second chapters. And here I am watching a movie based on a modified version of Russian Roulette.
Basically, the movie is about a lethal game with all the participants standing in a circle with a revolver each. In the first round, each one loads a single bullet and shoots at the next person. After this round, the game proceeds with two bullets in the barrel with whoever was not dead in the first round. It goes on until there is a duel and here 3 rounds are put in the barrel and each one aims at the other. Finally, one man comes out as the winner (provided at least one person is left). And in the background, there would be people betting hundreds of thousands on each of the players.
Was a really good movie though the outcome of the game could anyway be predicted. But the way the movie ended was good. Had it been a typical Bollywood movie, I am sure what would happen at the end π .Though it was a 2005 movie, it was all in black & white and also this was the first black & white movie in which I saw cell phones being used (of course it was taken in 2005 π ).
Lost accomplished
Took me 4 weeks and done with the entire series π . Was able to catch up with all the seasons (of course at the cost of my work & sleep) to be able to see the last episode of the series in time. Can’t believe people have been following it since the last six years π― . Nevertheless it was a really good series.
When I was done with the last episode, I was a bit confused with the ending. Then went through the forum in lostpedia and now it all fits in. When it actually sinks in, you can really appreciate the entire series. Of course, many points were actually left open like mystery about the island, where the initial people came from, about Walt, etc.
My favorite characters are John Locke, Benjamin Linus, Sawyer, Hurley, Daniel Faraday and sometimes Sayid was also fine. Never liked Jack as much until the last few episodes of Season#6. I liked all the episodes which were about the electromagnetism involving Faraday’s research and Desmond. Ohh ya, forgot to add Desmond to my list. I really like the expressionless face of Ben when it comes to his dialogue delivery.
Time to get back to some serious stuff now and just for the record, my macbook pro is not yet shipped π .
Getting Lost
What an addiction the Lost series is!!!! Just started watching it on Friday evening. Saw the first 5 episodes of Season-1 and went to bed. After that this is what I did on Saturday –
Got up at around 11.15 AM.
Had some tea and started watching Lost.
Watching Lost continues along with my brunch.
And then again Lost and lost……finally by evening ended up watching 5 more and decided not to watch more. Then thought of just watching 11th episode and then only the 12th π ….and after that did not decide anything….it went on upto 6 AM in the morning with a few tea breaks and dinner break. By then I completed the 23rd episode of Season-1 π .
On Sunday, got up at around 1.45Β PM and the same routine continues π … completed the last 24th episode of Season-1 and then started with Season-2. Finally put a stop to it at half of 6th episode of Season-2.
Just to add, did not even take bath over the last 2 days π . The only other productive work (apart from having food and putting my clothes in washing machine) I did was to get half a kilo of Chocolate Truffle cake π .
Also started watching Friends these days. Done with Season-1 and Season-2 is going on. And South Park download is going on now π .
I think I will be in serious trouble if this continues………need to get back to work now but will try to complete all the seasons of Lost in a month π .
3 idiots
Another good movie from aamir’s stable. Somehow I was a bit skeptical on how good this movie can be as it was based on five point someone and was not sure if Aamir would be successful in appealing the audience. But I was proved completely wrong and I enjoyed every bit of the movie π .
This was also my first movie in bangalore in a non-multiplex theatre. Watched it in Rex Theatre, Brigade Road. We were three people and got the tickets for thursday’s second show. We were enjoying the movie so much that did not even feel uncomfortable sitting in the rear stall seats.Yeah, by mistake my friend booked in rear stall instead of balcony.
Coming to the movie, we were laughing for almost whole of the movie and the best one was the speech of chatur on Teacher’s Day π . Still can’t stop laughing when I think of that scene π . Best part was that the movie did not focus too much on Aamir & kareena’s love which would otherwise be the case with any other Bollywood movie. I was also feeling a bit nostalgic during the movieΓΒ and was recollecting all my IIT days.ΓΒ Boman Irani has also done justice to his role.ΓΒ Looks like he now has perfected the role of being a khadoos Prof. On the whole a very good movie and is definitely worth-watching.
Btw don’t know if it was some coincidence, but when I was in Delhi I always wanted to go on a trip to Leh, Ladakh but could never go. Even this year was thinking of this trip with two other friends but did not materialise. And I saw the same again in 3 idiots and its back again now π . Hope to make it next year for sure.
Paa….
Watched this much-awaited movie today and Amitabh Bachchan has proved it again. Amitabh’sΓΒ performance as a Progeria kid Auro was brilliant and also an excellent work done by the make-up artists.
But the movie as a whole wasn’t that great as expected. Definitely it wasn’t as good as Taare Zammen Par (TZP).ΓΒ And it could be partly because of the kind of subject choosen in Paa. The disease Progeria that the movie is all about has no cure and Amitabh had to die at the end. But more than Amitabh dying at the end, I didn’t actually see much about Progeria being dealt with in the movie. At least that is something basic expected from these kind of movies. If we compare TZP with Paa, TZP is entirely about dyslexia in children and how they could be helped rather than being neglected. On the contrary, the director in Paa was trying to address many issues like bad politics, irresponsible media and of course the bringing together of Abhishek and Vidya Balan. But as the disease Progeria itself has no cure, maybe the director had to come up with these extras to keep the movie going. Maybe a different subject could have been chosen and then showed how it could be handled. In Paa, it was like Auro was just left to die and nothing could be done. To me it looked like another routine Bollywood story with a slightly different touch.
But, Auro’s comedy was something really good and also some of the touching scenes in the second-half were good. More or less it was just Auro driving the whole movie as our Big B always does π .
Another point that I didn’t like was the titles being read out by Jaya Bachchan when the movie starts. Though it was just about for a minute, somehow I really felt irritated with that idea. Was just waiting for her to stop π . Instead they could have had some background song.
On the whole, I would definitely suggest watching this movie at least for our Big B’s performance.ΓΒ But point to remember is not to go with TZP’s expectations. Big B definitely rocks but its no match to TZP. Lastly, though initially many thought that Paa was a remake of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, its definitely not. Paa definitely deals with a real disease where as the other one is just some work of fiction.
The Hangover
What a movie it was!!!!! As far as I remember this is the only movie in which I was laughing from beginning till the end and even now π . These days I reduced my movie watching a lot and am really happy that I watched such a good movie after a long time. Just like the way I used to watch movies randomly before, was just sitting idle in the evening after having worked from home and was feeling bored. All of a sudden came this thought to my mind to watch a movie and that’s it, me and Karthik went to forum and watched the night show. It turned out to be really really good one.
About the movie, I think there must be tons of reviews already on the net and I don’t want to repeat here again. Only thing I would say is it’s a must watch for all the guys out there π ……..and very much true as they say What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
Movie watching starts again
Finally, I watched a movie yesterday after a gap of 5 months π . I think this was the first time in the past few years that I haven’t watched a single movie for more than 5 months. Yeah, that’s a looooooooong gap for a guy who used to watch movies almost every week. Even if I was not going to a movie, I used to atleast check the pvr site to know about the currently running movies. And this time when I opened the site after 5 months I was surprised to see that the entire UI of pvr site has changed.
Coming to the movie that I watched, it was a telugu movie Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam. As always, I haven’t read any reviews about the movie before booking. I just go to any movie when I feel like watching one. Not very particular about the story, the cast,e tc. Movie was the same routine love story and how the hero and heroine make it up at the end. It wasn’t that bad but not a great movie also. To me the first half was better than the second half. The comedy was also good enough. But towards the end I didn’t like all the sentimental stuff that the director tried to put in. And somehow in this movie, I didn’t like the dialogue delivery of the actors. On the whole, I think it can be watched once and you won’t feel bored at any point.
To me it was a nice break from my daily routine and a good start to get back to my old movie going habit.
Update: I started going to gym π ………….will post about it sooooooon π
A funny read
Got a nice mail forward…… could not resist posting it here…… π
As a daily habit Pintu was reading newspaper.
Suddenly he asked his father, ” Dad! What does it mean by ‘Governance System’ ? ”
Γ’β¬ΕItΓ’β¬β’s like…Γ’β¬Β father said while thinking, Γ’β¬ΕSee! I earn and bring money to home, mean’s I am a ‘Money Holder’. Your mother decides where and how to spend that money and that means she is ‘Government’. That maid in our home is doing all the household works, so she will be ‘Labour Class’. You are a ‘Common man’ or ‘Public’. Your kid brother is ‘Future’ or the ‘Next Generation’, understand?”.
That day Pintu slept with all those thoughts. In the middle of the night he woke-up because his kid brother was crying. He wetted the matrices so he was crying. Pintu went to woke-up his mother. She was in deep sleep so Pintu went to the Maiden’s room to wake her up. But there his father was sleeping with the maid. So he came back with frustration.
Next morning father asked Pintu, ” Hey Pintu Darling! You understood the ‘Governance System’? “.
Pintu replied, Γ’β¬ΕYeah Dad, I understood! When Money Holder is exploiting Labour Class, our Government is sleeping. Future of our nation is crying for not getting their basic needs fulfilled and in all this Common Man is suffering!”

Another attempt by Ram Gopal Varma to scare the audience. But the fact is that this one isn’t scary at all. All those weird camera angles and sound effects went in vain…….they really don’t seem to make any difference at all. In fact all that made the audience laugh instead…….for a while I was wondering if I came to a horror movie or a comedy movie π . But anyways, the movie wasn’t all that bad and its definitely much much better than varma’s previous movie contract.
The story is a very simple one. It basically revolves around a construction engineer rajeev an atheist and his family. His daughter becomes a victim of black magic (kaala jaadu) and the movie is about how he saves his daughter. The struggle between science and superstitions has always been there and in this movie its the superstition that wins. I would have liked the movie more if it would have been the other way round π . But ultimately its all about what sells in the market π .
On the whole I would say its worth watching once and definitely not at all scary atleast not when compared to RGV’s movie bhooth. The child who becomes the victim of black magic has perfomed very well. Even the other characters in the movie have given good performances. I think its a good come back by RGV after the hopeless movie contract. Hope his next movies would be of his original standards π .
